Bhel Puri Recipe - Mumbai Style Street Food Chaat

Bhel Puri


Bhel Puri, a savoury snack and a type of chaat is often identified as a street food across the country or a must have food item at the Mumbai beaches like Juhu or Girgaon Chowpatty. I am sure all the foodies around the country are missing streetfood during this lockdown. Especially the Mumbaiites are definitely missing street side Chaat that includes mouth watering dishes like Bhel, Ragda Pattice, Pani Puri, Sev Puri, etc. But you don't have to crave too long for these food items. I have already covered Mumbai style Ragda Pattice recipe on my blog earlier. Today being a Sunday, you can treat your family with Bhel Puri along with sweet-sour-spicy chutneys. Here is the Bhel Puri recipe for you all.

How to make Bhel Puri at home?

Generally, Bhelpuri is made with puffed rice, sev, chutneys, chat masala, tomatoes, potatoes and onions. Its versatile characteristic makes it even more tasty. So what are we waiting for? Let's make delicious Bhelpuri at home!


Bhel Puri recipe
Ingredients:
Puffed rice 250 grams
Boiled potatoes chopped 1 or 2 medium sized

Tomatoes chopped 1 or 2 medium sized

Onions chopped 1 or 2 medium sized

Coriander leaves freshly chopped ¼ cup

Green chillies chopped (optional )

Dates and tamarind (sweet) chutney

Coriander and mint (green) chutney

Garlic and red chilli (red) chutney

Sev ½ cup

Papdi or puris

Chat masala 1 teaspoon

Turmeric ¼ teaspoon

Salt to taste

Oil 1 teaspoon

Bhelpuri preparation steps:

Place a large wok or pan on medium heat. 

Add oil, turmeric, puffed rice and salt. Quickly mix the puffed rice and roast for 5 to 6 minutes until its crispy.

In a large bowl alike Bhelwala bhaiyaji, add 2 cups of roasted puffed rice, chopped onions, tomatoes and boiled potatoes. Give a stir.

Now add 3 tablespoons of sweet chutney, 2 teaspoons of green chutney, 1/3 teaspoon of red chutney and little sev.  Gently mix all together.

Finally add crushed puri or papdi onto the mixture. 

Serve bhel puri and garnish with some sev and coriander leaves.

Sprinkle chaat masala as per your taste.
